“The lake it is!” Archer said, hanging up the phone. He had just finished up a conference call with four of his friends, and had the rest of the day planned out. The weather had been uncommonly warm over the past few days, pushing 80 degrees, and the tokotas had all been sitting in the shade and panting. Archer had wanted to go out and about, but he figured that while he could sit with the freezer door open, the tokotas weren’t able to have quite that luxury, so he had called up a few of his friends to see if they were available to head down to the lake to take a dip and cool off, bringing along their tokotas with them. Content, Archer put the phone down on the table and wandered into the kitchen to toss together a couple sandwiches and some meat for lunch and dinner. He prepared them quickly, wanting to get moving so he could head out and meet up with his friends at the lake. Archer tossed the sandwiches and a few other supplies into his saddle bags, shouldering them and walking out the front door. Shavaad was out in the yard, panting underneath a tall pine tree, but she pulled herself to her paws and padded over when Archer called her name. Archer grabbed Shavaad’s halter and led her into the barn, putting her in the center of the corridor and instructing her to stay. He dropped the saddle bags by her side and went into the track room, returning with a few brushes to clean up her coat a little bit before heading out. After brushing her fur out, Archer went back into the tack room, taking the brushes with him and returned, carrying a saddle, saddle blanket, and reins for Shavaad’s halter. He tossed the saddle blanket on first, though he made sure to choose one of the shorter, thinner ones so she wouldn’t get hotter than she already was, before putting the saddle over her back and securing the girth underneath her belly. With that done, Archer tossed the saddle bags over her back, clipping them into the saddle, and clipped the reins to her halter. Archer was all set to leave, but before he climbed into the saddle he suddenly remembered that they were going to the lake to swim, so he grasped Shavaad’s reins and led her to the front of the house, disappearing inside to quickly change into a pair of swimming trunks before reemerging from the house and climbing into Shavaad’s saddle. With everything all set for the trip, Archer touched his heels to her sides and together he and Shavaad set off down the road, heading for the lake.

Archer rode quickly through town, though as he turned a corner he nearly ran into his friend Robyn on her tokota Noc. Shavaad recoiled, springing away from the brown tokota and Archer fumbled, becoming unbalanced and he dug his fingers into Shavaad’s mane, steadying himself. Robyn had a look of surprise on her face, not expecting to see a large tokota and her rider come around a corner. Getting over their initial confusion, Archer greeted Robyn.
“Jeez, I didn’t see you there! Heading to the lake?” He asked, and Robyn nodded.
“Yep! I was worried about being late so I was in a bit of a hurry and didn’t notice you.” She said, smoothing down a few tufts of fur on Noc’s mane, giving a slight chuckle.
“Yeah, I was worried about being a bit late too, but if the two of us show up fashionably late, then I guess folks can’t complain too much.” Archer said with a grin, and together the two friends continued on their way through town, heading for the lake. They talked as their tokotas loped out of town, keeping a steady pace as they ran through the grasses, waving golden brown in the afternoon light. They could see where the lake was a head-a strip of water shining through a small grove of trees, and as they drew closer, Archer could see three large forms milling near the edge. Archer and Robyn rode up, calling out greetings to their friends as they drew closer. Jacob was sitting on a large, shaggy black and white tokota, and had already removed his shirt in the afternoon heat. June and Logan were shirtless as well, wearing bikini tops and shorts as they perched on their mount’s backs- June on Faline and Logan on Kal. All three tokotas seemed happy to see Noc and Shavaad, and they were greeted in a friendly manner.
“You all set to hop in?” Jacob called out, already climbing from Ruddy’s saddle.
“You bet!” Archer replied, climbing from Shavaad’s saddle and leading the tokota over to the shade, where a number of large rocks were piled. He took off her saddle, saddle bags, saddle blanket, and reins, and spread them over the rocks with the other handlers, wanting to preserve their tack and prevent it from getting wet. Jacob and Logan took their halters off of Ruddy and Kal, but Archer preferred to keep his halters on his tokotas-it made them a bit easier to catch if they were having a rough time. With their track removed, the tokotas made a beeline for the water, splashing right in and diving beneath the surface. Archer followed them right in, not waiting for the other handlers as he splashed in after them. He dove beneath the cool water, surfacing a few dozen feet from the shore and turned to see the rest of the handlers coming in after him. Jacob was already in the water, moving with fast strokes towards Archer and the tokotas, while Robyn and June were still removing their shorts. Logan was wading in, taking her time as she got used to the temperature. Shavaad and Noc were paddling in circles further out on the lake, trying to catch each other’s tails in their muzzles, while Ruddy and Kal splashed each other, playing with their large paws and wrestling in the shallows. Faline simply lay in the cool water, enjoying the temperature as she rolled, soaking her fur and cooling herself off.
Archer swam out to where Noc and Shavaad were swimming in circles, grabbing onto Shavaad’s fur and floating beside her as she paddled through the water. Robyn joined him, grabbing onto Noc’s fur and gently splashing at Shavaad. Shavaad huffed, and so Archer splashed at Noc, causing the male to shake his head, displeased that the splashing had reached him. Jacob and Logan were splashing each other beside their tokotas as they wrestled in the shallows, with Ruddy seemingly pinning Kal easily before she wormed out from underneath him, climbing quickly to her paws and splashing away with her sopping wet tail held high as Ruddy chased after her. Archer sighed, relaxing and laying back in the water, letting himself float and drift away from Shavaad and Noc, who seemed thoroughly entertained by swimming in circles after each other. Jacob joined him, and the two young men stared up at the clouds lazily drifting past above them. Meanwhile, Kal and Ruddy were still chasing each other around, this time with Kal chasing after the soggy yeti. He seemed to be slowed down by his fur, and Kal tackled him, and the two of them rolled around in the shallows, splashing close enough to Faline to make her get up and move to a calmer section of the lake.
