Exploring 5Archer hummed, taking the tent pack from Shavaad’s back and set it on the ground. Around him, his friends were working on setting up camp for the evening. They had chosen the site because it was relatively flat and open enough for the five large tokotas they had brought with them to spend the night, though they had decided to call an early stop when some dark clouds had descended, blocking off the sun and looming ominously over their heads. Archer bent, setting up the tent quickly before returning to Shavaad to remove her tack. Jacob had set up his tent next to Archer’s, and the remaining three handlers, June, Logan, and Robyn, filled in the rest of the small circle with their tents. June had already set up her tent and was building a small ring of stones in the center of the tents for their campfire, while Robyn straightened up and walked back out of the makeshift camp to return to looking for some more sticks to build the fire with. Exploring 4“The lake it is!” Archer said, hanging up the phone. He had just finished up a conference call with four of his friends, and had the rest of the day planned out. The weather had been uncommonly warm over the past few days, pushing 80 degrees, and the tokotas had all been sitting in the shade and panting. Archer had wanted to go out and about, but he figured that while he could sit with the freezer door open, the tokotas weren’t able to have quite that luxury, so he had called up a few of his friends to see if they were available to head down to the lake to take a dip and cool off, bringing along their tokotas with them. Content, Archer put the phone down on the table and wandered into the kitchen to toss together a couple sandwiches and some meat for lunch and dinner. He prepared them quickly, wanting to get moving so he could head out and meet up with his friends at the lake. Exploration 3After the events of the morning, the group began to slowly settle down. Finding the large amount of bones had seriously unnerved them, but the group was determined to continue on with their camping trip despite the lingering worry of whatever that creature was following their trail. The group continued to climb up the mountain ridgeline, handlers hunching their shoulders and ducking their heads at the fierce wind that whipped over one side of the mountain and buffetted them in their saddles. The tokotas doggedly continued on, bending their heads and half closing their eyes at the snow that whipped into their faces. Their handlers remained silent-speaking would only fill their mouths with the cold and the wind would rip the words away from the rest of the group and carry it off the mountainside.

Exploring 2Archer yawned and stretched, rolling out of bed as he dragged himself awake from a peaceful slumber. He had plans with his friends that day to go camping, and as usual, he had slept in. Archer hurried through his morning routine, quickly tossing some food on the stove to heat up while he prepared a few meals for him and Shavaad to eat while they were out camping. He made plenty of sandwiches and packed up a few large plastic bags of kibble for Shavaad, figuring if necessary he could supplement it with some prey they found on the way. After packing up the saddle bags with everything he needed except for the tent, Archer returned to the kitchen and sat down at the kitchen table with his warm breakfast, eating quickly as he glanced at his watch. Once he had finished the meal, he quickly washed the dishes and went to the closet, pulling out the tent and swinging the saddle bags over one shoulder.

Exploration 1Archer yawned, rolling over in bed to take a better look at his clock. The time read 0734, past when he should have gotten up for the day. He had plans with a group of his friends to go exploring later that day, as one of his friends had found a cave a few weeks ago with some interesting cave paintings inside, and Archer wanted to check it out. Thankfully, a few of his other friends had wanted to as well, so they decided to meet up on the edge of town that morning for a trip up into the mountains to try and find the cave. Archer rolled out of bed, tugging on a clean set of clothes and pulled a hoodie over his head as he made his way into the kitchen. Archer cooked himself a quick breakfast, preparing some leftover venison and eggs over the stove. He hummed a tune as the meat on the stove sizzled, before tossing the food on a plate and moving over to sit at the kitchen table. He ate in relative silence, enjoying the chirping of the birds outside his window before finishing up his food a
Fishing 7Archer sighed, rolling over in his bed to shut off the ringing alarm. He lay in silence for a few moments, breathing lightly before climbing from his bed and rising to tackle the new day. He had plans to take a group of tokotas out to go fishing, but over the past few days the fish had been getting harder and harder to find, forcing him to range further with his group of tokotas to find fish. Archer wasn’t sure where he was planning on heading for sure yet, but a friend the previous day had mentioned a new fishing spot to him, and given him directions for how to get there. Unfortunately Archer was unfamiliar with the area that his friend had talked about, but he still had the scrawled directions on a piece of paper he had received from his friend the other day. Archer walked into the kitchen, wondering whether he should take the tokotas to the new fishing spot or return to one of his usual spots. He decided that it couldn’t hurt to try a new spot, as it might be good for fi
Fishing 6Archer rolled out of bed, swatting at the alarm blaring in his ear. He was reluctant to rise from his warm sheets and face the cold day. Archer was starting to get tired from the near constant journeys and fishing trips that he was taking large groups of tokotas out on, and he was worried about beginning to make mistakes. He decided to give himself a break day or two, but there were already plans in place for him to pick up a few different tokotas to take out fishing for the day, so his days off would have to wait. Archer wandered into the kitchen and fixed himself up a quick breakfast and lunch, and munched on an apple as he swung his saddlebags over his shoulder and strolled out to the barn.
