Archer finished tacking up Olen, putting her saddle on and tightening the girth. Akeri was pacing outside as she waited for Archer to ride out of the barn with Olen. She pawed the ground and pranced in place as Archer rode out on Olen’s back. Archer would be going fishing with Tendaji today, and he was excited to see her after a little while of missing her presence, but first he would have to go pick up a tokota to bring along with them as a favor to a friend. Both Olen and Akeri could sense Archer’s excitement, and moved off at a quick pace down the hill. Archer let them move at a quick pace, as he was eager to pick up Reyna quickly so he could so he could see Tendaji sooner. The large dire proved to be friendly to both Olen and Akeri, so after a quick conversation with her owner the group was off towards Tendaji’s house. Once Akeri realized where they were heading and recognized the area, she charged off ahead, yipping and barking the whole way up Tendaji’s driveway. Archer grumbled, spurring Olen to run faster as Reyna took off after Akeri.

Tendaji’s eyes slowly opened to the sound of the ever persistent alarm and grumbled grumpily at it while clumsily attempting to turn it off with a few waves of her hand. After a few unsuccessful swipes she would successfully smack it against the wall and it gave off a few more rings in protest before falling silent. “Uuurgh, why does it have to be morning…” She grumbled, slipping out of bed drowsily before throwing on a bathrobe. She could hear someone making their way towards her house outside but paid little heed to it as she headed towards the kitchen while tying a sash around her waist. A red tokota lifted her head alongside a sleepy tundra male that would be lying on his back with his legs in the air attempting to get a good roll. At the sight of Olen, however, he swiftly rose to his feet and raced towards the female. He did not seem to get much thought to the fact that she had a rider while he attempted to cover her face in excited kisses while wagging his tail frantically.

Akeri and Reyna had already made themselves comfortable with Tendaji’s tokotas by the time Archer rode up on Olen. Surprisingly, Olen seemed pleased to see Snowball, wagging her tail slowly and dipping her head towards him. “Alright you two.” Archer said, prodding Snowball with a hind paw to make enough room so he could slide off Olen’s back. He walked up to the front door, tail swishing back and forth in anticipation as he knocked on the front door. As he did so, he heard a playful yip, and turned to see Olen leap up from her playful bow to shove at Snowball, who responded happily to her playful antics. “Olen! No!” He called out just before Olen was about to roll over. He wanted to avoid breaking her tack if possible, and thankfully Olen clambered out from underneath Snowball and trotted over to Archer.

Tendaji blinked slightly, chewing on her breakfast as she heard a knock at the door and gave a glance at the clock. “Huh, you’re early.” she muttered to herself before rushing towards her bedroom. “I’ll be right out!” She called past the door, swiftly slipping out of her bathrobe to get dressed. Hopping one one foot as she struggled to pull on her trousers and ending up falling over with a thud. “Uuurgh…” she whined unhappily from the floor. Snowball on the other hand appeared quite enthusiastic with Olen’s presence, not seeming too put off after having been shoved away with Olen’s rider’s foot. The red tokota remained lying beside the door and gave a soft protective growl at Archer that, in her mind, was invading her house. She calmed down quickly as she heard her ‘babysitter’s’ voice and laid her head back onto her front paws. Staring down the black and white tabby quite suspiciously, however.

Archer glanced cautiously at the large reddish tokota lying beside the door, suddenly thankful that Olen had managed to trot over and glance over his shoulder unhappily at the tokota, curling a lip and letting out a warning growl. “Come on, behave yourself.” Archer said, pushing gently on Olen’s head to move her back a little bit. He heard a heavy thud from inside the house and turned his head. “Are you okay in there?” He called out, figuring that she had probably knocked something over, but just wanted to make sure in the event that something had happened. Akeri nosed Snowball’s shoulder, trying to entice the male into a game of chase, darting forwards and back in front of him.

Tendaji soon made her way out while a bit out of breath, sorting her hair into a ponetail as her ears perked forward with an apologetic smile. “Sorry about that.” She cleared her throat slightly. Seeing Snowball being a bit overly affectionate with Olen at this point and sniffing places he shouldn’t and she gave him a long, irritated glare. “Oh not again. You might want to remove him from Olen unless you want a surprise litter.” She warned Archer, wrapping an arm around him briefly to give him a side hug in greeting before slipping past towards the stable to fetch Snowball’s bridle. “We’re heading up the mountain towards the creeks, right?” She asked over her shoulder, having swiftly returning with the bridle and now begun to convince Snowball he wants to take the bit. The male in turn making expressive yawning grimaces to display his reluctance.

Archer glanced towards Olen, noting her behaviour in relation to Snowball’s. “Thanks for the heads up, I’ll definitely have to watch out for that.” He said, returning the hug before following her over to the toktoas. He grabbed Olen’s halter to tug her away from Snowball, hopefully trying to discourage any further promiscuous behaviour. He climbed onto her back and settled himself in the saddle before riding over to Tendaji and Snowball. “How about we head over to Elm Bank? That spot by the river with a bunch of elm trees and the crescent shaped bank? I heard that was a good spot for fishing.” He said, before pulling back on the reins as Olen started to take interest in Snowball again. Reyna padded over and nosed Olen’s flank, huffing and trotting away down the path, showing her impatience to get going.

Tendaji finally achieved persuading Snowball to take the bit and fastened the rest of the head piece before climbing onto a rock and hauling herself up onto his back and digging her heels into his side to get him going. “Sounds good!” She fluttered her eyelashes at Archer. “Care to lead the way?” She asked, patting her thigh slightly to encourage the red female to get up out of her resting spot and follow them. “Sarabi! Come!” She called only to be met by an annoyed huff from the red female that appeared less than pleased about being in such a large group.

Archer flushed, nodding his head quickly before Olen padded off in the wrong direction. He quickly tugged the reins in the correct direction, causing Olen to roll her head dramatically and trotted off in the opposite, correct direction. Akeri charged past Olen to catch up with Reyna, though Archer didn’t call them back immediately as they were heading in the right direction. He slowed Olen slightly, waiting for Tendaji, Snowball, and Sarabi to catch up with them before he allowed Olen to speed along to catch up with the rest of the toktoas up ahead. It was a wonderful warm, sunny day, perfect for the toktoas to go fishing as they would dry quickly, and it gave Archer a much needed chance to sun himself in the sun’s warm rays.

Tendaji blinked slightly as Archer and Olen began heading in the opposite direction they were and a grin formed on her features at the sight of him having to give Olen a bit of convincing to head her the right way. Snowball’s ears would be perked forward happily as he stared at Olen and Tendaji swore she could see hearts in his eyes at this point and held her reins tightly. As they continued down along the path Sarabi gave Snowball a light nip on the rear to make him focus on the path ahead of them. Tendaji eyed a nearby stream that seemed to line the forest trail. “So, how long until we get there?” She asked, shifting on top of Snowball’s back.

Archer peered around, looking at the forest before shrugging his shoulders. “I think about a half hour to an hour or so, we’re getting pretty close. Just look out for those elm trees.” He said cheerily, guiding Olen through the small stream. Reyna splashed through the stream beside Archer and Olen, splashing them slightly while Akeri bent and rolled in the water, sending drops spraying everywhere when she kicked out her legs, got back to her feet, and shook herself. Archer urged Olen up the bank and thankfully managed to avoid the majority of the flying water.

Tendaji shifted uncomfortably as they approached the stream and began to curl up in her saddle slightly. Snowball appeared overly enthusiastic about the water and quickly raced over it to splash Olen with water. Unfortunately he didn’t stop there and began to race towards the elm trees at breakneck speed with his poor rider clinging on for dear life. He was eager to get there and fish and nothing was going to stop him. Sarabi followed close by with what could only be concern on her features, letting out a few yips towards Snowball and Tendaji. Attempting to push past Archer and Olen to get to them.

Archer nudged Olen’s sides, wanting to at least keep pace with the large tokota that was dashing through the set of elm trees, making sure that Tendaji didn’t fall off. The rest of the tokotas followed, moving at a quick pace through the forest and winding their way through the trees until they finally reached the spot where they were looking for- Elm Bank. Archer urged Olen to move faster, getting to the bank’s edge with just enough time to cut in front of Snowball in an attempt to slow the large tokota down.

Tendaji’s ride would quickly halt as Olen cuts in front of him but unfortunately caused her to fly forward and into the creek. Scaring a few fish that would seem to jump out of the water as a result. The poor lioness flailed unhappily as she quickly went under water, being a weak swimmer and the strong undercurrent running beneath her. Snowball’s expression became worried as he let out an unhappy whine, the red curly that had finally caught up gave him an irritated look as if to say ‘good job buttface’.

Archer immediately swung himself off of Olen and dashed down towards the creek. While it was summer, the water was cold as it was melted snow from the mountains. He leaped straight into the water, gasping as the chilly water seeped quickly through his clothes and fur. Water flooded into his mouth, sending him sputtering as he treaded water, looking for Tendaji’s head bobbing in the waves. He spotted a dark patch of sodden fur a little ways downstream from him, and swam towards it, trying to keep his head out of the water. He drew even with Tendaji and wrapped one of his arms around her and started swimming towards the side of the river, towards the bank.

Tendaji continued to struggle desperately in the water while trying to find a footing as well as keep her head above water. The water itself was cold and too deep to find any footing in the rocks below and it frightened her further. She was however quickly ‘rescued’ by an arm around her and did her best to weakly swim back alongside him. Once out of the water she’d draw deep gasps before wrapping her arms tightly around Archer, seemingly on the verge of crying. Snowball on the other hand would be too preoccupied with the water and quickly fished out a smaller fish to present to Olen proudly. His tail thudding against the ground beneath him.

Archer held Tendaji gently, starting to feel both of them shiver from the cold water. “Hey, hey.” He said, trying to get her attention. “It’s okay Tendaji, you’re safe, but we need to get out of these wet clothes and start a fire to warm ourselves up.” He said, remaining beside her while beginning to take off his shirt. Olen glanced between the two handlers, who had managed to pull themselves out of the river, and Snowball, who had managed to present her with a fish. She nosed his side, accepting the fish, before trotting into the stream to catch a few of her own. Akeri joined her in the water, rolling in it again before beginning to focus on fishing. Reyna hung back on the bank, glancing between the two handlers and the tokotas fishing in the stream before trotting into the water and joining the rest of the group fishing in the cold water.

Tendaji laid her ears flat against her skull in refusal as she continued to cling to Archer’s side. Scoffing at the idea of removing her clothing since she was already drenched to the bone and freezing. She instead focused her attention on Snowball that was splashing around in the water with a pleased expression on his features. His rider however had murder in her eyes while her fur stood on edge and ‘poofed’ up as the water dripped from it. “Stupid mutt.” She huffed angrily while shaking stubbornly. Sarabi gave the two riders a look while she inspected the river cautiously, she didn’t like water much and judging by what happened to her rider she wasn’t keen to chance it.

Archer turned to Tendaji, noticing that she hadn’t removed her sodden clothing yet. “Come on, you can’t warm up if your clothes are soaked.” He said, before turning away. “I’m going to go get some twigs and branches to make a fire.” He said, leaving his clothing in a small pile on a rock. He walked up into the trees and began to gather branches, twigs, and grasses to build a fire. Reyna managed to catch a fish, and trotted up to Tendaji with it in her mouth, displaying it proudly to the drenched feline.

Tendaji huffed grumpily at Archer but removed most of her clothing after he had left only to soon be met with Reyna that had decided to present her with a horrible scaly thing. She forced an encouraging smile however “Uh. Great job. Good catch.” She cleared her throat as she attempted to shift away slightly from the tokota that was dripping with even more water. Sarabi, seeing that Reyna was getting more attention, hastily brought the fish she had caught towards her and presented her with the fish with a wagging curly tail. “Ladies. I’d be happy without more water.” She blinked while the still squirming fish was dropped in her lap and she let out an unhappy squeak as she crawled away and it flopped back into the stream.

Archer gathered a sizeable pile of sticks, grasses, and twigs before returning to the riverbank where the group of tokotas was fishing. He whistled, and Olen came trotting up to him, and he fished a lighter from his saddle bag before sending Olen back to fish with the others. He set up the sticks, grasses, and branches at the top of the riverbank, kindling a fire and calling Tendaji over to it. Archer retrieved his sodden clothing from the stone, thanking Reyna as she presented him with a fish before climbing back up the bank and setting the clothes out to dry before looking out over the group and counting the tokotas. He turned to Tendaji, confused. “Hey, what happened to Olen and Snowball?” He asked, noticing that their two tokotas were missing from the fishing group. Tendaji looked up just as Olen and Snowball padded back down the riverbank to return to fishing, with Snowball looking immensely pleased with himself. “Erm, Tendaji, I think we might have a bit of a problem.” He said, gesturing with one hand towards Olen and Snowball while dipping his head and explaining to Tendaji what he had just seen. He sighed heavily, knowing that there was nothing he’d be able to do now except watch the two tokotas and make sure they didn’t sneak off into the bushes together again.
